New Year's booklet

I made a calendar booklet where students could draw and write about what we've done each month since the beginning of school.

August- they could draw and write about beginning school, Pete the Cat, meeting new friends, etc.

September- apples, making applesauce, Johnny Appleseed, balls and ramps...

October- Halloween....

The cover is below and I created pages August through January for their booklet. I included a January calendar for students to fill in days of month, write January and 2013. I also made up a January song or it could be used as a poem. You can find this at TPT.

Christmas in England

I wanted to educate the children on the how the rest of the world celebrates Christmas but I believe I was the one who got educated. I am so thankful to everyone who took the time to come speak to our class. We learned so much through your life experiences and the wonderful presentations that you prepared.

Dr. Bibbee is a professor from the University of North Alabama. He was very informative and entertaining as he talked to our class about Christmas in England. He told the students what he experienced during the Christmas season when he lived in England. He began by locating England on a map and we discussed how we could travel to England if we wanted to visit.

Dr. Bibbee explained to the children that England was ruled by the Queen. We looked at pictures of the Queen and the Royal Family. We compared and contrasted Santa Claus with Father Christmas. Then we had some fun with Christmas Crackers. The children loved popping them open and finding the jokes, prizes and jokes inside.

More on Professional Goal Setting

Resolutions for School and Myself

I'm not much for resolutions because I have never really stuck with them. I do like to set short term goals. I'm more of a break it down into parts person. Looking at the whole issue can be overwhelming for me. So here are my short term goals for the New Year.

Books to Read for School

I've purchased the book "CAFE" and I'm going to read it this month. I read "The Daily Five"recently and began incorporating it into our routine and would like to keep going with CAFE.

    Books to Read For Me

I started reading Gone Girl and it's really good.

Me

I have also neglected myself this year. I am going to start exercising! I'm thinking about starting with Yoga.

Organization and Research Project
In January I will begin my research project , " What effects will iPads have on motivation of kindergarten students in mathematics?" I want to focus on the organization of my documentation and work a little bit each day on writing detailed documentation and organizing clusters so I don't get bogged down towards the end if the project. I've gone back to school and I'm working towards obtaining an Educational Specialist degree in Teacher Leadership. I have completed 6 classes and will be taking one class this spring and a couple this summer. I will also be working towards re-certification for National Boards.
