Exploring Story Telling with iPads in Kindergarten

Exploring Story Telling
with iPads in Kindergarten
My name is Marisa Frederick and I teach kindergarten at Kilby Laboratory School which is on the campus of the University of North Alabama. My class recently received iPads to enhance education through technology. With help from Dr. Kinney who is a technology instructor in the education department, parents, and my administrator we were able to get 6 ipads for my kindergarten class.
Kaitlin Ashley, an education major, worked with our class to compile her Senior Honor's Capstone Project. She developed a blog named ikilby http://ikilby.weebly.com/index.html to record our journey and will be presenting this fall at a conference in Boston.
We observed what impacts iPads have on the Kindergarten teaching and learning environment. Our focus was on storytelling. After reading professional articles and reviews we narrowed our study to four apps that are pictured below- StoryKit, Puppet Pals, Doodlecast, and Toontastic.
I've provided the links to the apple store where you can checkthese apps out. I'll write more later about our process and findings.

Creating a Class Poster

Deep Space Sparkle

I absolutely love this poster!  I got the idea from this great art website called Deep Space Sparkle.
I had the children create self-portraits on regular sized  9X11 white paper. I scanned them and   we grouped them together to make the poster.  I think this would be a good idea for a class fundraiser.
